The 'Godfather' of all DVD collections!

Whilst in ASDA on Sunday I decided to look at the DVDs as I do every time i'm there and noticed this new box set of The Godfather films. Because i'd seen them all but never purchased them due to the old age restriction I decided that i'd buy them now, as these newly remastered versions were rated only 15. Today I watched them all back to back and in there newly remastered state they are simply spectacular. Even the tragically under-rated Part III. I'd go into detail but I dare not risk spoiling this grand trilogy for anyone who hasn't already seen it. The set includes 5 discs that consist of the remastered versions of all three Godfather movies and two special feature discs packed with featurettes. Also of note is the new cover art which is also incredible in its presentation and in comparison to the old collection. It is also shiny which doesn't really show in the picture and only adds to how good it looks on my shelf.
I guess what im getting at is that any film fan who hasn't already seen or purchased the godfather films should definately go out and buy this incredible collection that's easily recommendable to anyone and won't go amiss in any fans film collection.

Movie Update - Barberella
Did you know that they are remaking Barberella? Now I sighed when I first read about this but as it turns out Robert Rodreguez director of Planet Terror is Directing it and Rose Mcgowan (Charmed, Planet Terror, Death Proof) is playing the title role. Due to Rodreguez's excellent work on Planet Terror what was a modern take on exploitation cinema I think that Barberella could be incredible as at the time the original was made it could be catergorised as 'sexploitation' film.

Film Review - Jumper
This is the first of many film reviews i will be posting on blog.
'Dissapointing'What can I say about Jumper? It looked so good in the preview's and the trailers were nothing short of spectacular. I have heard this many times about movies but i'm going to say it now 'watch the trailer, it has all the best bits in it'. I hate saying that, as sadly its become quite cliche, but in the case of this film its completely true. Like the trailer, the film felt like a glossy tech demo for next generation CGI.
The concept of this film, a hero that can teleport anywhere at anytime is something quite original, refreshing in this recent time of remakes and sequels. But sadly the premise is better than the actual film, which feels more like a bad superhero movie than an epic journey of a man who's powers have somewhat isolated him. That to me is what the trailers were pitching to me which is why I was so dissapointed and underwhelmed by the whole film.
The film is also riddled with horrible cliches. It ticks the superhero origin flashback box. Cookie cutter love interest who is also his childhood love interest 'since he was 5' is also there. There is absolutely NO chemistry between him and her and yet they still end up sleeping together, even though he comes across as a bit of a freak. The most bland villian of all time, complete with genero henchmen. It even has the bad playstation acting cliche, which is quite hilarious to watch.
Final Verdict
Personally I wouldn't recommend it but there are those who like it. It has impressive CGI and is a great concept but that doesn't rescue it from the diabolical plot and cookie cutter characters. 4/10- Posted Feb 27, 2008 11:22 am GMT
