Too much of a coincidence.  Chances are this is Easter egg the developers placed in the game as a call out to Yatzhee himself.

If by "random" you mean going in to edit the character's name, then yes, I can believe that ;)

it is an OZ flag I had one for the banner of my UCB.  - still do but the UCB went MIA, I reckon nobody else was interested in a board devoted to the AFL.

were it Kiwi there would be four stars anyone knows that, even if they live in the third world (South Island)

You know what is also a random dice roll? Doing anything on GS without encountering crippling bugs.

Anyway, Yahtzee has been part of an Easter egg before. I recall that a gun skin in Bulletstorm references his joke about the shuriken-and-lightning gun in Painkiller. This isn't the first time the X-COM dev team recreated real people with the squad editor. Some of the con video demos had Sid Meier as a squadmate, and I think some other key devs are recreated in the game's character generator. Wouldn't be surprised in more famous game journalists are hidden in there.

Assuming the person the image came from isn't a big fat liar.

Afaik, the Sid Meier character featured in prequel demos is actually one of the unlockable hero characters available when manually editing a character's name - but doing so locks all achievement progress in-game - this particular case, if true, does seem to point to quirky humour on the dev's part.

When I get XCOM I'll need to try typing in some other famous game journalists and see if there are any more Easter Eggs.
