All About sambora113
Imagine this...you go to your local cinema with your friends to join in on the latest "movie release" except this "movie" is truly interactive. Each viewer could participate in the movie in the same way as an MMO. Each viewer or player could control an in-game avatar using presets that the developers could use to limit the appearance of in-game characters to fit the visuals and ethos of the movie.
There could be a set goal in each scene or scheduled events that occur that viewers and players would have to react to. This could perhaps herald a new bar for storytelling in movies, taking the videogame world into that of the film world. It could work because the two influence eachother so much anyway...
Its just a thought or an idea (if EA take this idea i'm going to be frickin' pissed!). Or it could epic fail and people would burn the cinema down in protest...or 12 year old COD fans would just f**k up the entire experience with their l33t skillzzz...whatever...
"The Role of Sound in Videogames Today"
This is the tentative title of my dissertation which I would say I am about half way through, word count wise anyway. It sounds quite interesting, I chose to do it because I felt that as an avid gamer and Music Technology student that I could combine my two loves into one epic, awesome and grade grabbing piece of writing. The problem? I can't!
It was interesting writing about the history of videogames and how todays standards evolved from very rudimentary beginnings yet it has now become tedious. Simply repeating on paper what I already know seemed like a very good idea and it was until I realised that if I was going to hit my frankly huge 14,000 word limit then I would have to start adding some real in-depth information. Heres my problem, finding this information such as spec sheets and technological descriptions regarding consoles and videogames is quite simple, but choosing what is relevant and what is pointless information is mind-numbing. On top of that everything I read must be referenced. Referencing is the bane of my existence, it actively seeks to steal away any enjoyment I can whittle out of writing an essay and gobble it up into its maw made from quotation marks and author names.
So i've decided to write this blog in the vain hope that someone will read it and sympathise with me or offer me words of wisdom, encouragement, motivation and general niceties! My advisor reckons I should think of it as a story, explaining how sound in videogames began as a simple blip and encompass all its mighty little achievements right up until today. He's totally right but my goodness I can't for the life of me stay interested in one topic enough to really get into the nitty gritty!
Anyways thanks for listening, i'll have a few more posts up soon...but right now its time to tackle the beast yet again...sigh...
