I've been trying out the Spore Creature Creator today. Even with such a small number of parts to choose from, there is virtually an unlimited amount of combinations to create. My mind asplodes when I try to think what the final release of Spore will be like. The entire world will probably grind to a halt while absorbed in creating something for the Sporepedia.

Here are the creatures I've made so far:

I don't know if the gods are smiling down upon me, or this is some kind of freakish coincidence but I've just received a confirmation email saying that I've won a competition for a closed beta key to Jumpgate Evolution.
Maybe it's some kind of good karma that I've built up over the years. ![]()
I can't wait to see what this game has to offer. From what I've seen it's the dream MMO that I've been waiting for.

After coming home from work and slumping down into my computer chair I did the usual rounds of checking forums, checking more forums, dreaming about the next games I want and checking emails. As I opened the email inbox I noticed the usual Gamespot emails and so I immediately dismissed it as 'yet another tournament' etc....then after my brain cleared I scanned the subject line again. It said:
Gamespot AU Wii Fit Competition - Winner Notification.
cranial fireworks ensued...![]()
Thankyou Gamespot AU for selecting my entry. I look forward to receiving the "little white thing you stand on" soon

...now excuse me while I extinguish my hair.
IGN Vault held an IRC Q&A session with NetDevil, developers for Jumpgate Evolution, this morning and the fans were there to ask the burning questions. A lot of informative answers were given by the developers and it really goes to show how devoted they are to this game.
Hermann Peterscheck, the producer, was generous enough to stay behind after the Q&A was finished to chat even more about the game. Guys like Hermann are the main reason why I'm so excited about this game, because I know that every detail of the game has been painstakingly analysed and play-tested by the developers themselves.
Anyway I saved a log of the chatroom and put it online here. Mazeltov
I guess this would be considered fairly old news for when it was announced but it's brand new for me.
Apparently Peter Berg has decided to direct a film adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune novel.
EDIT: Just found a more recent confirmation
I seriously don't know whether to cry or shout with joy. I've always wanted someone to come along and bring justice to the book ever since David Lynch destroyed the first attempt. However, I just don't have much faith in a director that obviously has no expertise in the Sci Fi genre....then there is also the fact that Dune is nearly impossible to translate effectively to the big screen. Here's hoping that he finds a good writer and a good producer so this movie doesn't end up being a cash cow for the studios.
(A hint to Peter: Fran Walsh + WETA workshop = epic WIN....aw screw it, just hire Peter Jackson and GTFO
)

Looks like Microsoft has finally released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.
Windows update has just notified me that it's available.
Looks like I'll be skipping Vista until Windows 7 ![]()
