    A51-early demo

having played the Area 51 demo about a day before i went off to prague for a week, then sat on a beach in Nice listening to Gs podcasts, ive had a lot of time to think about my gaming summer. the demo was cool, but the game isnt out until the end of the year i think, its a bit short, clunky and way too much slowdown. so i cant really understand them releasing this so soon, especially when there hasnt really been a lot of info about it in any other medium. i really likec the style of the game and how it plays, but surely it would be better to put out a few videos and a bigger demo in nov or something. Althuogh actually, come to think of it, i really want a bioshock demo now.

    Featuring music by

Having a good soundtrack in game has always been an important part in ensuring a fully polished game, with in game music in particular. my own memory of the panic on funkatron music, with its crazy beat and funky tune has always stuck in my head as to how music adds and define the tone of the game, and ive always been a fan of the hitman soundtracks, on constant rotation on my ipod.

i havnt had a lot of time to play forza 2 yet, having just got back from paris, but the soundtrack seems to continue a trend of just sticking in as many licensed indie tracks from new cool artists without giving it much more thought.

So where have the amazingly crafted soundtracks gone, created specifically for a game, like hitman, deus ex, perfect dark Z or halo? If i want ot hear CSS over and over again, ill do a custom soundtrack

    The personal touch

There are many video game web sites out there for people to look at, all giving up to date reviews, previews and features on the latest games, many with archives full of pictures, video and opinion. But in my opinion, there are only a handful of sites really worth looking at on a regular basis for the latest news in the world of games; Gamespot being one of them. Gamespot manages to differentiate themselves from other sites by involving users more, with forums, comments and more importantly, giving access to staff profiles and blogs. One of the things I love about the site, and that keeps me coming back every day, is the actual sense of community of poeple (staff and users) who are truly passionate about gaming and get together to talk- be it arguing about the dfferent consoles and release dates, to in depth topics about, say violence in gaming or talking about new engines and exciting new indie game companies. Gamespot live helped to develp this, bringing a personal touch to game reporting, staff who clearly love their jobs and like to share there enthusiasm with others. Just listen to a hotspot podcast and you almost feel like your there with the staff, like chat about games down the pub, and thats what defines GS's sense of community, so you do feel a bit bummed when they leave (carrie+ greg and others), because youve been reading their posts, watching them on live and just generally getting to know them. I think thats what other sites are missing, because its not just about reprting and reading about the latest sequel or franchuse, but bringing people who love games together.

this is not supposed to be a 'i love gamespot' post but i feel the site sets a great example, although others may feel they have their own other fav sites.
