What if there were NEVER any new games created from this point onward?
What if...there were NEVER any new games created from this point onward? Would there still be enough games to keep you gaming years into the future? For me, I would have to say yes. I would say that I've played quite a few games in my years, but there are still literally hundreds more I want to try.
For starters, I want to play all of the games on the "Top 100 Games" list (as voted by users on GameFAQs). Although it's not a comprehensive list of "great games" by any means, it's a good place to start. And I've really only played about 37 of the 100 games. If I only started playing all the games on that list, it still might take me a few years to beat them all.
I start thinking about this situation any time someone complains that such-and-such company isn't coming out with any games they want or care about for this coming year. This situation tends to get worse after E3. Well, I like to say: So what? There are literally not enough hours in the day, nor years of my life (assuming I live to old age) for me to even play all the good games we have RIGHT NOW, which does not even count all of the thousands of good titles that will probably come out in the coming decades.
If a company has a dull year for good titles, all you have to do is download an emulator (if you can't afford another console or game right now) and start chugging away at some of the classics. I guarantee some of them could turn into the funnest gaming experiences in recent memory.

It's been a while, but...
I know it's been a while, but I'm still alive! My fall semester was really, really, busy. It's been fun getting back in the swing of things and reading people's blogs, though.
I have been playing quite a few games in which I am now either at the last boss or RIGHT near the end and still need to beat. So, tomorrow and this weekend I'm going to crack down and finish Kingdom Hearts II, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VIII, and Super Mario Galaxy, in that order.
Then, I'm going to get started on Xenosaga: Episode II, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy XII, in that order.
Even though I have my work cut out for me with so many great games, I still couldn't resist putting my name on the waiting list for a TON of games at the used game store. These games include Alundra, Vagrant Story, Legend of Dragoon, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, and Earthbound. I've only ever seen Earthbound in there once, and it was $80. Still, I've heard nothing but positive things about it and that plus Mario RPG are the only two games I lack to complete my "superb SNES games" set.
I just reread my post and I realized almost all of those games are RPGs. I think, without realizing it, I have turned into an RPG fanatic.

When it comes to video games, it's hard to resist being a spendthrift
So, I have sucessfully completed Kingdom Hearts. I liked it a LOT, especially since this is my first exerience with a true action RPG. There are several areas in which this game could be improved, but overall it was very well done. Since a certain person INSISTS that I play Chain of Memories before playing Kingdom Hearts 2, I will do that.
In the meantime, I went to the used books/CDs/DVDs/games store. I picked up a copy of ICO because the whole idea of the game intrigued me greatly. So far, I am pretty impressed with the puzzles and overall mood of the game (sound effects, lighting, ect). On another trip shortly after the first one, I spotted MANY games that I wanted to get. It's really hard to not be a spendthrift when I go in this particular store, mainly because it's a huge warehouse of things I like to buy.
Anyway, I limited my purchases to:
1. Sonic the Hedgehog, with box and instructions (hey, only $3.95!)
2. Kirby's Avalance for SNES (hope it's good), and
3. Xenosaga Episode 1. So far I've played about1 hour of it...I mean...I've PLAYED 1 hour of it, in addition toWATCHING about 3 hours of it. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE it so far. I'm really into Sci-Fi and I think it's going to be top-notch.
And, you should see how great my willpower is, because I resisted buying these games:
1. Castlevania 2 for NES
2. Breath of Fire IV for PS
3. Another PS game which I can't remember the spelling for but which I want to play
4. Mario Party for N64
5. Mario Party 3 for N64
6. StarTropics for NES
7. KH: Chain of Memories for GBA
8. Final Fantasy Anthology for PS
9. Xenosaga: Episode 2
10. Tetris for GB
11. Goldeneye for N64
...and others, but these are the ones worth mentioning. I say it's hard not to buy because these are old games. If I wanted to buy Super Paper Mario, I could resist the purchase until I had money because I know the game isn't going anywhere for a while. These old games, however, can show up MAYBE once a year then they're gone. Life is so unfair
