My Friends

15Oct 09

Now this game has received little mainstream attention. It may be because of the biggest game since Halo 3 coming out (Modern Warfare 2 incase you've been living under a rock for the past year), but I am going to sit on the fence with this one. I mean it defintiely looks like a Fallout 3 meets Call of Duty game, however does this mean the game will be any good?

After looking at Wikipedia (the almighty source for anything and everything...with a slight hint of bias to all things) I've decided that the game is looking good. Gameplay videos on Gamespot only show shooting things, which only proves that there are in fact 17 million combination of weapons - and little about other areas of gameplay.

You see my problem is with the game itself. For me the game seems to be trying too hard. It has the Fallout scenery and RPG element, the shooting set up of any modern FPS, and the levels of Diablo. However does this make it the ultimate game, or will it flop? Sometimes it's better to focus on ONE aspect, so maybe I want to play Fallout 3, Call of Duty and Diablo seperately - not to amalgamate the games into one. I mean if the developers focus on too many things I feel that the little details won't be there.

Now I'm sure there are people out there who have seen the game or even feel that this game will be amazing, but I'm going to sit on the fence with this one. I feel that the game does look promising, but can so easily fail. Whilst the visuals and the gameplay look stunning, I feel that it could be another Blacksite - looks good, plays okay = a mediocre game.

What do you guys think? Take a look at the videos below to make up your own minds, and if anyone has played it - then post your comments below.

I don't know about Borderlands, I haven't seen much of the game and it seems a bit too close to Modern Warfare 2. I mean, if I got it, I'd want to give it my full attention. However, Modern Warfare 2 will have all my attention from 10th November onwards.

dan_scfc: True, I can see it being a game thats under the radar and turns up in the bargain bin at £10/$10 - but it being a good game. However, like you, the hype is towards MW2 - so I'll be getting MW2.

    Eh - MAG 250+ players

Result or something along the lines of that. Borderlands looks interesting, but despite the ridiculous amount of content in there, to me at least, the game doesn't look that amazingly impressive from a gameplay perspective. I know there's only so many ways you can make the FPS genre refreshing but the only usual additions added to the stale genre are level stat RPG levelling gimmicks, two or three story developments. I would make more sense here but I'm listening to my mom on the phone going "OOOH", and "NOOO..." so it's slightly putting me off. Thank God for my own place... ¬_¬ Oh... way off topic there me thinks...

The game has been getting a decent amount of attention. It looks like it'll end up being one of the best games of the year. Let's just hope it sells as well as it deserves.

I'm probably getting it. I won't be able to get it immediately, but that'll give me time to look at the ratings.

I'm similarly unsure myself. I rather love RPG's, and I have this strange feeling that the game may end up being much more fun than Fallout 3, (which though I loved it to death, sometimes was too much grit, and wasteland for me to handle). On the other hand, I worry that this game may be a shell of itself without online co-op,which means that if a few of my friends don't get it, I might not have that much funAnd will random drop-in people be fun to co-op with in a game like this? Or will they just muck it up? ... Who knows... Also, the limitations on character choice and 'creation' are a bit disheartening.

Having said all of this though, I'm still rather interested in the game, and am eagerly awaiting the first trickle of reviews.

At this point I would admit that I too have more questions than answers...and with Dragon Age and Modern Warefare 2 already pre-ordered I may not get the chance to field those questions myself for a while.
