  The games of 2011

  Games I most definately going to get:
  Star Wars - The Old Republic, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, The Witcher 2, Dungeon Defenders, Stronghold 3, Warhammer 40.000: Space Marine, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War II - Retribution, The Sims Medieval, Sword of the Stars II, Shogun II: Total War, Bulletstorm, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, (D&D?) Neverwinter, Firefall, Dead Space 2, Fable 3 (PC), Max Payne 3, F.E.A.R. 3, Batman: Arkham City, Gears of War 3, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier & Max Payne 3
  
  These games might turn out OK.

  The size of video games and live streaming of content

  Yesterday I downloaded Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from Steam.
  Turns out it's a sizable download, 18 GB (compressed), and I started to wonder if the dream about live streaming content would even be a reality.
  Even on my decent internet connection (15/15 Fiber) the download took some time and that makes me wonder if the OnLive (http://www.onlive.com/) streaming service would ever even be possible if the internet connections cant keep up with the datastreams.

  Sure, they have implemented compression and they downscale the graphics, but its still a buttload of data. The 18 GB mentioned above, is already compressed, the extracted size is almost 30GB. If all the gamers in the world would start using OnLive right now, they would have needed insane amounts of servers, since all of the rendering is from their side. Also, their internet would have to be insanely fast, considering they would need a constant stream to every gamer out there. Youtube would be nothing compared, absolutely nothing.

  And to top it all off, the streaming on services like OnLive is true streaming, not progressive like you have on Youtube. Meaning, you cant just go back to a point, say a save, and the content would have been cached. No you would have to stream it all again. Then suddenly somebody in your house (spouse, sister, girlfriend etc) decides to stream 720p content from Youtube and your game would stop.

  Maybe in the future, when the internet connections outruns the lead video games have, services like this could become for everyday Joe's.

  I'm getting old, also new haircut.

  Ok, today I noticed something that made me feel old.
  I was nerding at my computer and today it's actually quite hot outside. Some of you reading this won't understand how hot 20+ degrees is for somebody who live this far north on the globe, but lets just say the summer is really over here and anything warmer than 15 degrees celcius is hot.

  So there I was, sweating in front of the computer, opening windows and doors to feel the cold breeze. Then all of the sudden I just walked to the kitchen and made myself a steamy hot cup of coffee.
  Sat down in front of the computer, started drinking and felt all happy.
  Now, that is a sign of old age right there. Making a cup of coffee instead of pouring ice cold soda straight from the freezer. Coffee is a habit I got from the military, it's my only drug addiction.

  I even get comments from girls now, that I should grow up and stop playing games..
  We'll, maybe those fat girls should stay away from the muffins and go to the damn gym, instead of bothering me with my hobby's. At least I work out to keep fit.
