My Friends

So I just finished ME3 which was an amazing culmination to my entire experience with the series, and I have one thing to say. What's up with the backlash? Sure, the ending wasn't a highlight of ME3 but I personally felt satisfied and quite frankly the backlash is overblown. For many, I really think it comes down to how they played the game and their level of expectations (and the fact that this is the finale to a series people have dedicated countless hours to). If you spoke to every character until you exhausted the available dialog options, you can easily get a sense of where they'll be once the credits end - your closure to these relationships and the world develops throughout the experience, the ending itself just paints a picture of how things may or may not turn out, the rest is left up to the imagination and I have no qualms about that.

I won't write some long detailed article about how much I enjoyed the game as a whole (I don't think most people care to read that), but in my opinion, after having just played three of these games in a row during the period of a couple of months. I can easily say that this is the most satisfying gaming experience I've ever had narratively and it's a series that has moved me in ways that few video games have. A slightly flawed ending won't change that.

When I go back and replay all three games, I'll stick with Liara. She and Garrus are really the only squad members you have a real connection to through all the games. That being said, I don't regret sticking with Miranda my first time through. Once you start romancing her I think she really opens up and you learn some interesting things about her. If you break it off with her in ME3 she turns away and *cries*. I don't think I could live with myself if I made Miranda cry.

@johnsteed7 While she's easy on the eyes, I still always thought of Miranda as a high maintenance know it all B#$@ through and through. Especially after that argument with Jack in defense of Cerberus. I ultimately went with the shy type in Liara through all three games. Plus, I have a thing for the color blue. @_@

I loved Mass Effect 3. I spend around 8 hours a day playing it until I beat it. As much as I love video games, there are very few game that can have that kind of effect on me. Endings are important. They're our last memory of any work of fiction. Usually, the ending is what the audience takes away from the experience. Mass Effect 3s ending was even more important. This is what all 3 games have been building toward. This is the moment that Mass Effect fans had become investing in getting to. I can understand why so many people had such a hard time with an ending as bad as Mass Effect 3s. As far as where the characters ended up... I romanced Miranda in ME2 and ME3. I like to think that she spent the rest of her life refusing to even look at another man, knowing that she will never find one as awesome as I was.

@Jbul Well I'll be honest man. The more I read the complaints by the people that can actually formulate a credible argument (not the individuals who wanted a hapily ever after), the more I understand the outcry. I just personally don't understand how an entire experience or an entire series can be ruined based on its (albeit short in comparison) closure.

People are complaining because they can. And because they're gamers. I'm glad you loved it. Damn, you tore through that f***ing thing.

@wavey_gravey Well I'm looking forward to everyone's opinion on the matter. The reasons for not loving the ending are plenty if you're that anal about the finer details and in some cases its justified. Personally however, it just wasn't bad enough for me to go to the extremes and donate money towards an alternative like most already have ~_~.

I have hardly played the game, but so far I can say that it is outstanding. I am a big fan of the series any way, but this game is making me love it all over again. I haven't finished it so I can't comment on endings, but I am already thinking that some of the hue and cry over the game is unjustified and a little whiney - I can only assume it is the price of success. Can't wait to see how it all turns out.
