This game is pure pleasure, true there are bugs, but the story, gameplay and characters and...and of course, vampires!
Is an underrated geme and deserves to be revitalized with new installments. Imagine if it were to be made by Chris Avellone (Planescape Torment, Kotor II) or the guys behind TES.
Ughh... regret it already... Does not run on windows 7 64bit, have to hunt down and install unofficial patches for it to work at all... I didn't know Steam sold broken games like this. They are supposed to have them patched and updated by default...
$5 again, gonna grab it this time. Hopefully it takes my mind off of ME3 for the weekend...
This game is screaming out to be remade or reinvented for the current or next generation.
1 Like I just dug this game out of my luggage bag and am thinking about re-installing it. It was quite fun years ago when I played it, despite its flaws. The haunted house part was tons of fun as was *ahem* meeting up with Jeanette.
7.7 is a disgusting core for this classic. A low score because you need an IQ, and any game that needs an IQ gets downscored.
stailcookie: There is a patch for widescreen resolution included in the unofficial patch(es). You should check it out, it's definitely worth it!
The sale is tempting, but it just seems a little too dated to bother. I don't want to buy it to see if it even supports widescreen. EA store has some newer stuff for $5 this weekend. Only interested because I did play the first masquerade game and it was good, but that was over a decade ago.
Going to have to buy this off steam since its on sale. Bought it years ago from EB Games and disc 2 wouldn't install so i never got to play it. Now i finally can.
Wanted this game for a while, and I just bought it through Steam for $4.99. Looking forward to playing it!
Awesome game by the looks of it. Haven't played it yet, but I am going to buy and download it off of Direct2Drive.com for $19.95. : ) Can't wait to play it!
I have played this game and still play it; I really think it was underrated despite its bugs. The melee combat system is good for vampires; the plot is interesting and characters are memorable.
CCP games merged with white wolf and are producing "world of darkness". I thought VtM:Redemption was better but each to their own I guess.
Well,as sad as it is, the people at troika games and black isles simply put have no luck... They create great games that dont get the recognition they deserve, Arcanum,Fallout 1 and 2 and Bloodlines... Not to mention that Black isles and Troika games went out of business.
I remember getting this as soon as it came out. I think I even preordered it, then gave the shirt that came with it to my ex. When I first started trying to play it, it would just crash when I got to chapter 2, but now, haven't encountered anything game-breaking, but will be ready to patch if need be, and hopefully can complete it and get it out of my stash after all these years. Fun game so far, just wish I could have completed years ago.
Also At some parts of the game its dowright crap and frustrating as hell, like the zombie graveyard mission or the sewers. So at the end its a 7.7 allright. Very immersive but gameplay is completly mediocre.
The good stuff: Very immersive vampiric world and characters and music theme, it feels like watching a great vampire movie. The bad: bugs, glitches, gamestoping bugs that you got to figure out wha the hell do, but you can because the game just stop working properly, the most unstable game i ever played even with all the patches. Character development system is a mess that does not make any sense on why you cant raise this but not that in the character development screen Very unbalanced, at some points feel easy and after that its extremely hard. Also when you complete quests you get 1,2 exp points and its the only way to level up your skils but every skill requires 9-12 points to upgrade and in a game with so many skills that do such a little impact on how better your character gets.....completing as much quests as possible to get few xp points its rather annoying. Plus some quests are just crap. Very bad combat system. Meele combat is only in 3rd person view and rather dissapointing without any good gameplay mechanics or controls. Guns are useless, slow, weak, very innacurate and with expensive ammo, no matter how much you upgrade them, they are still very weak and the fps perspective is almost impossible to aim and move properly. Guns are just useless. Humans take many bullets and vampires take millions but you die with a few hits.
He says there's 4 different endings, there's actually five: (possible spoilers) Camerilla-LaCroix Camerilla-Strauss Anarchs Kuei-Jin and the Lone Wolf ending. With Wesp5's unofficial patches, almost all bugs and glitches are gone. With it, this is one of the best vampire games I've ever played.
Even with patches the game had its fair share of bugs. However, the atmosphere, story, and overall "fresh" feeling the game gave me totally overrode the cons. Even now I can see true potential in this game and I hope dearly for a quality sequel. We miss you Troika!
This game is great but unfortunately my rig that plays Oblivion lag free runs this at about 3 frames per second. I wish there was some way to run it faster. Turning of shadows, lowest graphics and everything didn't accelerate the speed at all. What do I do?
@the duke and metal gear plus guns can rip humans to pieces from far away before they get close so they would probaley do the same to vampires after all by the time you get to me with that sword i will shoot you in the chest and face 12 times
I almost never question Gamespot's reviews. However, I must disagree with this review. I believe that Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is one of the greatest vampire games out there. I believe that the combat is fun and violent whether or not one uses a melee weapon. I think that the game is well balanced and has many upsides that totally omit its flaws. I'm only sorry that they didn't make a sequel.
metalgear Vampires also have better reflexes, insight, dexterity, and coordination than humans, so why wouldn't they be suited for shooting AND melee? As a person who enjoys fps i can safely say that shooting is way more fun than melee. (This game does melee really well tho, so it's cool).
well if you think about it the gun combat being weak kind of makes sense, vampires are more agile and stronger than humans so naturally they would be better suited for melee imo
I played this in 2005 it was great. I played it in 2007 with the patch it was even better. I am downloading it now cause my CDs are fraked, and i'll play it with the Companion patch that just came out, that you can team up... Finished it with all endings. This game is the best vampire game you can dream of, the best Pen Paper -> CRPG transfer ever, and one of my top 5 favourites of all times. TRY IT.
I think it's a lot better than he gives it credit for. I played it back in 2005, and just started replaying it again - this time in 1680x1050 widescreen and on a Core 2 Duo machine with 4GB RAM. Incredible! The glitches he mentions were fixed with the official 1.2 patch, and there has been a super-dedicated guy patching it ever since with unofficial patches that add new dialog, items, etc. Definitely worth your time!
huh a rpg/combat game that they say is good but that the combat system is broken i dont know about that......
