I'd always alternated them as well, but holding it does work smoothly if you're looking to move in a more-or-less straight line.
Just ran through Casual and then Hard over the last couple of days. Thinking I might start God Hard from the beginning again and actually finish 5-3 this time. (Note to others: don't stop playing for months when you're stuck at God Hard 5-3... that is not fun to come back to when you half-forget how to play.
)
Looking over the few trophies I'm missing, I realized I've completely ignored the cigarettes. Will have to start messing with those. And then there's mission mode. I'm not really motivated for that, though. Think I'd have more fun with GH. Same thing in NG, I'd rather play Master Ninja with no UTs or items than get really deep in the mission mode, for whatever reason.
I think I like the sense of progression, the context that a campaign provides.
PS - This game's leaderboards got hacked, or is the exploit in-game? Sad to see the top of the boards are 9999999999s, reminds me of NG2. : /

"The act of treachery is an art, but the traitor himself is a piece of ****." - Mike Tyson - Jan 30, 2013 12:12 am GMTIt's neat isn't it! Though as you said, alternating is better. Boosting right and then dodging left gives insane invincibility and screws badly with enemies aim. This way you can even dodge every laser of the Bogey barrage with ease.
About God Hard and Challenge6. I feel you. God Hard is actually pretty fun once you get 'into' it, but Challenge6 was just not interesting to me after having beaten it twice already. There you either win or don't, and in God Hand you, as you put it, always have progress.
Challenge 6 is also more just 'remember what to do' then actual experimentation.
I still want to do a 0 death God Hand run for a nice shot at the leaderboards, but all that quiting to menu is kinda boring.
So i'm content with #75'th place.
About the leaderboards; not that I know of. There are a few insane highscores which are probably exploiters. There was rumor of a continue-bug that allowed you to keep your singleplayer score, restart, continue and keep it from that chapter. Never got it to work though.

You better file that deep under "DEAL WITH IT".
>content with
So you have already dealt with it, I see.
>probably exploiters
That's how it goes. You don't get to the top without it. It is to be expected. Too bad one cannot see what they do from a replay. Would make for a lovely spectacle in most cases. - Feb 2, 2013 4:20 pm GMTThe last time I took a look at the leaderboards, the GH scores haven't been hacked yet. Most other difficulties have those 9999's, though. Challenge scoreboards are untouched as well. Probably because of how they work - time, and not a numerical score.
The top few places obviously did some farming (infinite transports in 3-7, for example), but there's one very impressive GH run where almost every chapter met the +5000 time bonus threshold. I think it was the #5 or #6 score on the board. I'm a bit of a score nut, so I found that run the most impressive of the lot.

Yeah, when I made that post I had just finished Hard and looked at the Hard total completion board, and it was all 999's, but I scrolled down far enough to see that obviously the top scores otherwise were very, very far away from that so those 999's were obviously ill-gotten in some manner.
Started playing GH again. It really is a whole different game, the AR time is so short and the damage you take is extreme.
I think maybe they pushed it slightly too far- clearly I'm not very skilled at this game but it seems like GH forces you into playing more conservatively than the game's philosophy intends unless you're literally a world-class player.
At the same time... I still enjoy the hell out of it, so I'll give them credit for that. It's just a different playstyle, you simply can't take the risks and be daring like you usually would.
In retrospect, it makes me a little sad that I passed on this game when it was new, because I didn't really 'get it' when I was playing the demo... Platinum really deserved for this to be a hit, and I was one of the dummies that failed them.

Trust me though, this is stupid to do. Though your ARS is reduced your boost dodging is still god. By boosting left and dodging right you'll avoid nearly all the attacks in the game.
It's a huge jump in difficulty I'll agree to that though, but it's pretty fun.

www.youtube.com/royta15 - Feb 3, 2013 1:11 pm GMTyeah i dunno about GH
when i watch videos of the best players, even they spend an AWFUL lot of time hiding behind walls, it also feels like the game's designed in a way that no matter how good you are, you're gonna get hit by something at some point because of annoying western-style "hit-scan" enemies
really i would prefer if the enemies moved faster and acted more intelligently with less frequent, slower-moving but much stronger shots (non-hitscan), maybe like an armored core game
so yeah, i'm not too fond of GH, i'm more fond of No AR, low-cover Hard Mode playthroughs, when i play GH, it's mostly just to replay 5-3, which might be my favorite boss fight in any 3d action game

(>-'.'-)> Kirby rules you. - Feb 3, 2013 9:30 pm GMT^^The kind of cover use I favor is not active cover. Passive cover. I don't stick to surfaces too often unless there is need of it (quicker recovery, toss a cig, certain moves, etc.). I'd rather just aim around cover such that I can hit them and they cannot hit me. Some cover is indestructible in that sense (crates for instance), but mind that some attacks negate that cover (even among melee).
^Foes have godly aim on GH, AI favors targeting you more than your allies (almost exclusively now), etc. It is tweaked to either force lesser players to play dirtier (and slower) or have the higher level players zipping around like mad. I always play dirty though. It's how I get by with challenge runs. GH is one by default (NUR).
