"Guilty pleasure"
Worms for the iPod Touch is my first dive into the Worms universe. When I first started playing the game, I had no idea what to expect, and it was kinda difficult to understand what the heck was going on. As I kept playing it though, I figured it out. The game is a turn based strategy game where you play as your army of worms, and you have to destroy the other worms. It may seem like a simple concept, and, well, it kinda is. There is a lot more depth to this game than you might think.

At the menu, you are given a single player or multiplayer mode. With single player, you can play a simple quick game, or do some challenges, which involve you destroying the other team with the items the challenge allows.

The game itself plays like this. When it's your turn, you are timed. You are given a slew of weapons to choose from, and they each do different things. For example, the air strike will let you fire missles from the sky, the blowtorch will let you tunnel through the landscape, there are so many weapons to choose from that will let you deal plenty of damage. You can use weapons in clever ways, like aiming a bazooka at an oil drum to deal loads of damage to your opponent, since oil drums explode when fired at. However, you must be careful of your own position, since you may also be trapped in an explosion.

Each of the worms have a number of health points, which are deducted when they get hit. If a worm runs out of health, then it will explode, and that can deal damage to nearby worms. To change up the action, weapon and health crates will randomly appear from the sky, and you will want to pick them up to get the weapons and extra health.

The graphics look fine for this game. They do look colorful and cartoony, and for iPod Touch standards, they look fine.

The controls work good too. Each of the weapons have different controls. For guns and stuff like that, you drag the crosshair in the direction you want the shot to go, then you hold the fire button for as long as you want the fire to go. To move your worm, you can either jump or walk. To walk, you hold the part of the screen in the direction you wanna go.

The game is just hilarious. The worms make funny sound bits, and the weapons were funny because of all the random stuff you get. The stages also seemed wacky, and that's what made this game really fun.

THE VERDICT!

Worms is a really good game. It has good strategy game elements, coupled with the hilarious gameplay, and that's what make this game really fun to play, and you should definintly play it.

Final Score:
8- Great
