- "Masterpiece"
This will be short, sweet, and to the point.
I've been playing the Worms series since its birth.
The worms series is one of those games, that is so good, that sequels are nearly identical to the previous games and they still are amazing to play. I will pretty much review the worms games in general, although Armageddon was my personal favorite.
Worms on the surface, is a cartoony kiddy strategy game that you would expect from a online Flash game. But no, no no....it is very very deep. The learning curve is steep, and really allows for mastery. There is a certain magic in this game. As I play it, I can't but think that this is an artform. Every movement, every millisecond holding down the spacebar key, every choice of weapon, has intense consequences. Playing this game in the single player campaign, is no doubt an amazing experience. It can keep me entertained even away from modern games (2011). But...where this game really goes - lets say, to another level...is the Hotseat multiplayer.
Grab a few pepsis, brews, chips and hummus and salsa, and you have 5+ hours of addictive fun with your friends. This game really offers a bonding moment that no online game can offer. You take turns, like playing chess, destroying eachother's worms. Everybody has their own style, and strenghths. Mine were lobbing grenades withe unbelievable accuracy, while my friend's strenght was using the mines to accurately shoot my worms off the map. The hotseat gets very competative, and intense, yet maintains a distinct humor. I mean come on, its little 2D worms shooting Bazooka's at eachother!
I must have put at least 500+ hours into this game in my lifetime, and about 470 of those were probably Hotseat multiplayer. I believe hotseat offers more than what online can offer because of the physical component.
Worms armageddon is the best one of the series, in my opinion. The game allows for a full mastery of all the weapons and tactics.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a hotseat game to play with a bunch of friends, pick up worms armageddon and master the Wormage
