I finish the game on normal now looking to try my hand on classic. Can someone please explain this. Is it a good thing or bad?

Damage Roulette: Weapons have a wider range of damage.
    GOOD/BAD?
New Economy: Randomized council member funding.
    GOOD
Not Created Equally: Rookies will have random starting stats.
    GOOD
Hidden Potential: As a soldier is promoted, stats increase randomly.
    GOOD/BAD?
Red Fog: Combat wounds will degrade the soldier’s mission stats.
    BAD
Absolutely Critical: A flanking shot guarantees a critical hit.
    VERY GOOD
The Greater Good: Psionics can only be learned from interrogating a psionic alien. GOOD/BAD?
Marathon: The game takes considerably longer to complete.
    GOOD/BAD?
Results Driven: A country offers less funding as its panic level increases.
    BAD
High Stakes: Random rewards for stopping alien abductions.
    GOOD
Diminishing Returns: Increased cost of satellite construction.
    BAD
More Than Human: The psionic gift is extremely rare.
    BAD

I also wouldn't mind for a little blessing of the menageries myself.

Damage roulette is largely luck based. For me it basically means "All your attacks do one damage enjoy."

I was wondering if Damage Roulette and Absolutely Critical applied to enemies as well?
So if I turn them on, it affecting the entire game, not just my squad? Ergo, I could get blasted by a sectopod for 1 damage and when I'm flanked prepare to die?

Also, how exactly does the greater good work? You have to capture a sectoid commander before you can build the psi labs instead of killing one? Or to learn psi-abilities, I have to capture enemies with gifted soldiers instead of just using existing psi-abilities?

    One more question...

Does using the Second Wave options disable trophies?

No, I cleared Classic using some of these options turned on. The trophy still popped after the end sequence.

It seems to, yes. I can't confirm 100%, but I've seen Chyssalids do 1 damage to civilians (yet still kill them despite having three health) when I think they usually do 5-8. Absolutely Critical does apply, yes.

Probably not for 1 damage. It's just a wider range of damage, you might take...three?

You have to capture and interrogate a live Sectoid Commander or Etheral.

    It does not.

    Thanks, for the comprehensive answers.

I'm definitely going to start playing around with 2nd wave options on my 3rd run (classic).
I'm looking forward to damage roulette + marathon + absolutely critical.

I honestly don't think damage roulette will affect my playstyle too much, but absolutely critical is gonna help open up assaults for me. I love lightning reflexes, but considering the way I use assaults, I usually forego it in favor of the crit bonus. I have two assault builds I utilize: Crit monster and Overwatch Cancel. With Absolutely critical, I can focus less on the crit bonus upgrades though.

Of course, my "playstyle" may completely change once I get classic and impossible (4th run).

One thing I've noticed is that explosives seem not to be affected by damage roulette, They always do the same damage. I think it's because damage roulette makes weapons do "a wider range of damage" but explosives have never had a range, their damage outputs are always static.

    LoL...

Playing with marathon, new economy, hidden potential and not created equally on classic (no ironman yet)

I had a similar experience where argentina and brazil? were two of the highest monetary value regions.

So far I have not one, but two, ridiculous assaults with aim =/> than my snipers due to hidden potential and not created equally. I also have a sniper ranked sgt with <70 aim...

I also thought it worth mentioning that of 20 recruits so far I have 5 snipers and 1 heavy... LoL only 3 rookies left to rank up too. That heavy is my most valued unit atm.
