speech not working

I installed the game with no problems, but there is no speech (thanks for subtitles). all other sounds and music are working fine...I am vexed by this problem. Is there a fix for this, or has anyone else experienced this problem? I am running Windows 8 64-bit as my OS if that may have any bearing on things. Any info regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It is in the Options of the Main Menu of the program whether you want Squaddies speak or not.
I think it would be on by default, but can check there on one of the tabs and pages for setting the Options in the game or else there is something about your sound card that will not allow it.

yeah, i set it to "on" inthe options...must be my sound card
