I played VC awhile back, but my interest ran out of gas.
I hear the XCOM devs referencing VC alot but I don't know if this is gonna be "my thing".
Any thoughts?

Really? I loved VC. Wished VC3 would be released in the US. Nice to have other neat games, but all the 12 year old kids want mommy to buy is COD 17.
Depends, do you like strategy combat games? If you have little paitence, and just want to push start and be killing something within 30 seconds, then this game is probably not for you.
Do you like allocating resources to research, equipment, and upgrades, playing out turn-by turn battles, building your own base, shooting down UFOs and sending in teams to recover the site and mop up any surviving aliens, then you might like this game.
I'd say it plays sort of like VC, but more in depth.

Yeah, in VC you only need to think for some of the story missions. In this, you need to think a lot more about where you want to place people and what cover is best.

XCOM isnt a RPG though its strictly strategy
VS is a strategy RPG, so it lasts like 30-100 hours
XCOM is just a 15 hour playthrough
