Check out an interactive gameplay demo for XCOM: Enemy Unknown illustrating the important choices you will make in the game.
Anyone know if there will be vehicles in the fighting that you control, produce and command? And will battles be epic, in terms of size of units ou can control? Say something like civilization where you have countless units to command?
@Trinitarian you certainly wont have countless units to command like Civ, at most u can bring SIX people on tactical missions, or mix and match with a Shiv (robotic tank) and soldiers. BUT battles will be epic... especially with difficulty ramped up to classic....
no more sleep for me after this game gets released v^_^,
These little choice options are only for this interactive Demo. Its a different demo than the playable one. This one is simply to show how the the demo will play out based on the the choices you choose. The whole thing is for watching only and not playing. Its not in the actual game at all.
Damn iam tired of that infernal IE add!! Microsoft just needs to realize that IE sucks, and you will never get to have a monopoly on web browsers anymore!
@xolivierx Patience, it will be out soon. Of course that means that it's hard to play any other games while waiting to play this game, but soon, very soon.
@Smokescreened84 @xolivierx yup... I've stopped playing all my other games (guildwars 2 and darksiders 2) because I can't wait for this game to come out and playing anything else at the moment isn't satisfying my gamer buzz v^_^,
@R_Mckay @Smokescreened84 last night I dloaded X-Com Ufo defense (torrent) and I was so friggin annoyed by DOSBOX that I went on Steam and just bought the game lol. I'm still not sure wherter or not I will dload it off Steam or buy the Ps3 version. My little finger tells me it's bound to be the PS3 version. Don't look for me next week, I'll be MIA
This wasn't a good demo video. It will give a lot of people the wrong impression of the game.
@talanto Ewww, not thanks. There are more than enough twitch shooters out as it is. It's good to see a turn based strategy game for a change.
@Smokescreened84 Hey man, don't feed the troll. Obvious troll discussion bait. @talanto
@Smokescreened84 @talanto You make me want to try Fall out tactic and Front Mission again.
@HistoryDragonI @talanto Fallout Tactics was alright, it could have been better, but it was alright. I h didn't enjoy Front Mission much.
Am I going to get this game? Probably not any time soon.
Do I appreciate a developer avoiding yet another complete & total FPS sellout of a revered, classic title? Hell yes.
@BravoOneActual appreciation doesn't pay there bills. So you think this or that about companies selling out. Well with people like you its no wonder. Its like saying thank you for to some volunteer for their work when they could be your employee if you'd hire them, while you have this lazy ass employee who drinks on the job and doesn't do shit but yet you keep him.
Keep your lame and stupid ass comments to yourself OR put your money where your mouth is.
"frontal assault" and "cover advance"? so during the mission it cant happen that the situation changes and forces the player to shift his approach? or do a combination of both maybe?
not sure about this level of "choices" pretty much being forced onto the player.
so I cant have 3 assault and one sniper? is that how it goes? I cant have it my way? why not? the game will stop me becaus Im doing it wrong?
I think the more choices r left to the discretion of the player the better.
so far it seems to me that developer at 2KG are trying to make it so the heads of little kids dont spin and explode when playing this game, I know the original XCOM did just that before I got the hang of it
You do know the Steam demo combat was set on easy difficulty, with fixed spawn points and was completely scripted. It was only part of the tutorial missions before the game even begins. While the interactive trailer is just a montage of different scenarios so you can see win & fail states? Combat is way, way better than it seems in the demo.
The game isn't aimed at kids, its just as complex as before. Its just refined and more sleek. The systems flow better and you save on micromanagement, but you still have the Resources, Economy, Facilities, Research, Grey Market, Income, Terror Level, Scanning for Missions, Interceptors, Weapons & Equipment, Ranking Up, Complex tactical Gameplay, Recovering Equipment/Relics, Diverse Missions, Refined Interface and Inventory system, Better Squad Customization and more Game Modes, better Balance and Multiplayer.
You have to spend some reasonable time viewing previews before deciding on an opinion of the game, or you just sound like you don't want to like it.
@simon1812 this is essentially an incredibly dumbed down demo. rest assured that in the actual game there is a MUCH greater amount of flexibility
@simon1812 Before mission you choose your soldiers & loadout freely and you control them directly during the mission. This is just a video showing you different approachs, those choice buttons won't appear in the game. Play the demo on Steam, or watch other gameplay videos where they show the real game.
@Anigmar no I dont like steam, I didn like asking my parent for permission to play videogames I dont like having to ask permission to anybody (steam) to play videogames, if am getting this it will be for PS3 (yeah I know console sucks :3) I am still waiting for the demo to show up at the PSN anytime, hope thats soon.
but the impression is that too many aspect of the game are being removed from the hands of the player, just for the sake of dumbing it down for the kid, or so it seems from my humble point of view ):[
@simon1812 @Anigmar No some things are removed for the sake of boredom of monotony and tedium. Like having to count every single movement point for say 10 soldiers making every combat hours and hours long just to hunt down the last alien. That is difference in Streamlining, from Dumbing Down. Now its much better.
@simon1812 @Anigmar i think you will be pleasantly surprised to find it isn't dumbed down at all. You should check out the 'now playing' videos of xcom on the site, especially the one with kevin. They show the game has def not been dumbed down. And after the 1st missions things start to get hard and complex.
@simon1812 If you're under 18 you're not legally allowed to play this game. Here is a video showing THE ACTUAL GAME. See if it helps you http://www.gamespot.com/shows/now-playing/?event=xcom_eu20120924
Looking forward to this game! I really hope these multiple choices are just suggestions, though, and not pre-packed strategies intended to make the game easier. This one has great potential, please come through with it 2K!
Get real guys, you want to play it because it's new then after 6 hours of sync kill action cam you will jump back to guild wars 2 and don't even try to counter my comment because you will look stupid.
The game has such high polish and quality behind it the devs give people the option to turn the glam-cam off from the get go. This is just a game people can sit and actually enjoy thinking about, you aren't rushed or moved along by easy gameplay. This is an XCOM game mate, the spectacle is just the icing on a very tasty TBS game cake.
@slydfx just from glancing over the replies to your comment i would advise applying cold water to the burnt area
@slydfx You will be amazed to find out that there are a awesome lot of people who couldn't care less for Guild Wars. You will also be amazed to find out the first X-COM game was one of the best strategy games of all time, leaving a huge fan base without a decent sequel. So no, we actually wanna play it because we've waited 15 years for it.
@Murissokah @slydfx I loved the original X-COM game back in the 90s, such a challenge game and so engrossing. Loved Terror From The Deep as well, that game was cruel.
If this remake is as good as the originals then I hope to be playing it for months or longer.
@Anigmar @Murissokah @slydfx They were brutal, that game was quite the challenge. Such challenges are so rare these days.
@Smokescreened84 @Murissokah @slydfx I remember first time I met a Lobsterman in TFTD. I was on Gauss tech. Had to shoot him with 6 different guys and throw a few grenades just to kill 1. Those guys were my nightmare.
@slydfx I don't play Guild Wars, not interested in that game. I'm interested in XCOM because I love strategy and I've been longing for a new turn based strategy game to play.
@slydfx nope. i want to play it because the game designers and developers have a lot of integrity. Civilization is so addicting. i still play it. This looks even more interesting.
Indeed i am looking forward to this game kill cams and all...It adds to the game to be honest.
I cant wait for this game! I hope its coming to my part of the world (SEA) I can't even play Guildwars 2 anymore, I just want this game in my hands now. I'm a fan of the original, but I kind of like the idea of trimming the troop count to six, basically because I remember when I played the original I was mostly using the rest of the people as canon fodder, here, u lose a soldier and its definitely going to hurt, gives u more incentive to keep ur troops alive thru proper tactics and makes u think twice about doing something stupid.
the new mechanic is interesting, and I must say, I am leaning more towards the new move and shoot style, but that's just me. if people want a more faithful iteration, then Xenonauts (did I get that right?) could be more of ur flavor of choice, either way... lets support these games to show the people who control the purse strings that there is STILL an audience for this kind of games.
@R_Mckay kind of agree but one of thie things abour the original was to be able to deploy so many troops, even if just for cannon fodder, remember in these kind of games things dont go as planned (that was part of the beauty) in some instance I would send the rookies (canon fodder) ahead just for the enemy to target my veterans instead, compromise the whole strategy but then having the rookies rise to the occasion and save the day, this was the crazy unpredictable stuff one had to deal with in this game and it was awesome.
I dont know anybody else but I never ever had any of the original members (the soldier u would start with) survive to see the end of the game, they would have a long run though.
October 12th can't come fast enough. I can't wait to sink many hours into this game!!!! :D
